These are PERFECT if you're in the sort of workplace where shorts get you frowns but skirts aren't always appropriate for what you're doing. I'm just over 5' tall and work for nuns. These just brush the tops of my knees. They're loose enough that I can go up and down my ladders without concern about straining any seams, they breathe really well, and best of all for this time of year, they're long enough that when I get into my car with its black seats and an interior temperature of 109, they protect my legs from getting burned to a crisp and then adhering to the seat.
When you first put them on and pull them up, you'll probably look at the pleats and recoil. It's weird, though - once you actually fasten the button and zip the zipper, the pleats look good. It's almost as though before everything was stretchy spandex bodycon formfitting leave-nothing-to-the-imagination style, people still had ways of making things fit your body properly. I've got chunky hips. I do! But I have a narrow waist. It's difficult to find things that really fit you properly with that shape these days, but this hits at the natural waste, secures comfortably, and the pleats are done correctly so the legs fall neatly. Nothing bunches. Nothing stretches.
Practical and flattering both.
I personally wish they were a tad thicker, but I'm the one who decided to get a car with a black pleather interior. It's my own fault if a regular pair of shorts doesn't fully protect me from the burning.
The one issue is that they do wrinkle easily. A quick tumble through the dryer, though, and the wrinkles fall out.
